Carnaval in Panama City is ok if u want to spend 4 days getting hustled by hookers and pimps, spend your time watching your wallet and generally trying to keep safe.

But for real Carnaval fun, the small towns in the interior really know what a party is about.

We spent 2 days at the city carnaval........... then headed to Penonome for the final 2 days of the official carnaval. Plenty of relatives to crash with there. Totally different atmosphere. Friendly people who just wanted to have a good time rather than rob a gringo. Even felt safe having Adam with us in the night.

In Penonome we heard that the following weekend a carnavalito (mini carnaval) was to be held in the hill village of La Pintada. Not officially part of the real carnaval scene, but aimed at the local population, many of whom have no transport, or funds, for a trip into the big towns.

What a great way to spend a weekend, getting borracho super cheap Wink

So early saturday morning we headed out of Panama city for a weekend of fun n games.

Spent the afternoon soaking up beers at 3 for a buck, getting soaked along with everyone else by the water tankers, and deafened by the enormous speaker systems that panamenos enjoy so much. Even the police were friendly, with a 'thank you for coming to our village' welcome while checking us into the carnaval area.

Things wound down around 5pm........ so we decided to get a few hours sleep in preparation for the nightime entertainment Wink

Back into action around 10pm for a good solid night of drinking and carousing, plenty of friendly smiles from the local talent, and a couple of offers to sell or rent a sister or cousin Twisted Evil

Being a happily married fella I had to turn em all down Shocked

Anyway......... probably half of em are related to my wife, and small villages got big tongues.

Hit the sack again about 5am........ passed out actually, but managed to get myself upright in time for the sunday afternoon festivities and hair of the dog beers. One of Izzy's uncles smuggled in a full bottle of Ron Abuelo. Works just as well with beer for a mixer instead of cola Cool

A few hours asleep in the local park ,feeling fine and ready for more action. Shame we had to miss out on the bulk of sunday nights festivities as we had an early start.....6am..... to drive back to Panama city. 2am is late enuf lol

It always amazes me how much drink i can absorb when its cheap and the party is in full swing.

Took most of monday to recover and thats as much as i can remember Wink

Pics in the photo album.

The best car safety device is a rear-view mirror with a cop in it.
